A museum solo exhibition, and a catalogue text by its director

The Egyptian Museum in Berlin hung Peter Wirth's paintings among the granite columns, a few rooms from the bust of Nefertiti. Prof. Dr. Dietrich Wildung, who directed the collection from 1989 to 2009, wrote the catalogue text.

Wirth had not been invited. He had sent the museum his own catalogue of works, unasked, and the exhibition followed from that. It remains the only museum solo exhibition of his career.

Peter Wirth (1951–2018)

Peter Wirth studied graphic design at the Folkwangschule in Essen and graduated with distinction. He then painted, printed and photographed for forty years, numbering his work by hand into the thousands. Sixteen solo exhibitions between 1977 and 2019; in 1993 the Egyptian Museum in Berlin showed his Nefertiti cycle, with a catalogue text by its director, Dietrich Wildung. Five years running he hung in the Große Kunstausstellung NRW in Düsseldorf. He photographed every painting himself, which is the reason this shop can exist at all.

Open edition. A limitation invented after an artist has died is not a decision he made, so we do not impose one. Every sheet carries a registration number recorded in the archive instead.
